Admission Requirements

The internship is a post baccalaureate program that admits only individuals who have completed an ACEND accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics and at least a bachelor’s degree. All applicants must have, or will have completed a DPD program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) and receive a DPD verification statement to be eligible to apply to this dietetic internship. Although not required, most successful applicants who match with our program have dietetics and/or food service related work or volunteer experience.  Acceptance into our internship is very competitive, and the majority of our interns have had an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.  

Program Hours

All our interns will complete a total of 1248 hours of supervised practice. 
A majority of these form the Core Curriculum covering clinical, community, and foodservice management rotations.  An additional 232 hours will be spent in one of the concentrations we offer.  Supervised practice is in addition to class-time and assignments accompanying the rotations throughout the internship year.  During the internship, many of our interns will spend time working with Sodexo clinical dietitians in the hospital setting, as well as in our corporate, campus and school accounts during foodservice management. Interns are often able to fulfill some of their community requirements at their clinical or foodservice management sites as well.  See graphic below for an overview of the hours, and pdf file below that gives a more detailed look into our rotations.

The Masters program option consists of a supervised practice experience  as outlined above and online classes equaling 35 credit hours total.   Courses are designed to  enhance the learning in the supervised practice rotations.

The Application Process

Sodexo Internships participate in the DICAS application and D&D matching.  All campuses and the distance option participate in the spring match.  Our Philadelphia campus and distance option also participate in the fall match.  Go to the Application Process page for detailed instructions for applying to one or more of our options.  See table below for match dates and corresponding orientation starts.
Note:  The Allentown Campus program is part-time only.  The Distance Education Option can be either part-time or full-time.  All other campuses are full-time only.

  • Full and part time

  • Full Time Non-MS interns will complete 32-40 rotation hours in supervised practice per week, depending on class days.
  • Part Time non-MS interns will complete a minimum of 24 rotation hours in supervised practice a week.

MS Schedules:
  • Full time MS track interns will complete 32 rotation hours in supervised practice per week.
  • Part time MS Track interns will complete 24 rotation hours in supervised practice per week.
  • Note weeks off from internship hours on the schedules.  This will allow rotations to better coincide with courses.
  • Courses and corresponding Rotations coincide so supervised practice is enhanced by theoretical knowledge, making the educational experience seamless

--- DICAS --- 
Dietetic Internship Centralized Application Service

The on-line application must be completed for our program by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on February 15  for the April  match and September 25  for the November match.  The fee to use DICAS is $45 for the first application submitted and $20 for each additional application.  Because all our campuses and distance option are under one application, you will only need pay one DICAS fee regardless of how many of our options you choose.

Note:  Be sure to fill in the work and volunteer sections on the application--this is what we use for your work experience score.  We will not use your resume to obtain this information as it is not specific enough.

Personal Statement
Applicants will be asked to complete a personal statement in 1,000 words or less.  Questions to be addressed in the personal statement include:

  • Why do you want to enter the dietetics profession?
  • What are some experiences that have helped to prepare you for your career?
  • What are your short-term and long-term goals?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses or areas needing improvement?

Verification Statement or Declaration of Intent
This will be submitted to DICAS by your DPD program director.

When completing the application form, applicants must include the name and contact information (specifically an e-mail address) for each reference. This will trigger an e-mail message requesting completion of a reference form.
The form will be completed on-line. Students submitting more than one application will need to use the same individuals as references for each application. 
We require 3 recommendations:  At least one from a professor and at least one from a work supervisor.  The third reference is the applicant's choice.  You should have a recommendation from at least one Registered Dietitian.

--- Computer Matching (D&D Digital) ---

We participate in computer matching.
Applicants must register online with D&D Digital  (  computer matching and select  dietetic internship priority choices by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on February 15 for the April match and September 25 for the November match.
There is a $55.00 computer matching fee paid to D&D Digital.

In addition to the materials required by DICAS, we require that the cover sheet and application fee be sent directly to the internship.  These materials must be postmarked by February 15,  for the April match and September 25, for the November match.  Please send to:

Send the cover sheet and check or money order via a service that can track your materials.   FedEx, UPS, and the Postal Service all provide services to do this.

If you use the postal service, use Priority Mail as it will give you a tracking number you can check online to see when we received your cover sheet and application fee.

  • Internship Application Cover Sheet:  
    Download (see above) and fill out the cover sheet.  This will tell us who you are, the options you are applying for, your preferred geographic location(s)  for the distance option, and the concentrations you are interested in.  Mail this to us with your application fee.
    Important:Please also upload the Application Cover Sheet to the Supplemental Section of DICAS as well. 

  • Internship Application Fee: 
    In addition to the DICAS and D&D Digital application fees, we require an application fee, made out to Sodexo and sent with the cover sheet to the address above.
    The application fee for Sodexo is: $50 for the first Campus/Distance option, and $25 for each additional Campus/Distance option to which you are applying up to a maximum of $175.
    For example, if you apply to:
    Distance alone, the fee would be $50
    to Distance and New York, the fee would be $50 + $ 25 = $75 total
    to Allentown, New York, and Philadelphia, the fee would be  $50 + $ 25 +$25 = $100 total
    Note:For Distance, you can specify any number of geographic locations in the US you are willing to go to, and it is still just one fee for the Distance Campus.

    Important:Pay with a personal check or money order. Do not send cash.

  • Electronic Portfolio:
    As applicants, you are required to submit an electronic portfolio, highlighting your experience, achievements, goals, and commitment to the profession. Additionally, a well-crafted electronic portfolio demonstrates your computer and technology skills. Suggested platforms are:,, and  Add your web link and any instructions or passwords to the Application Cover Sheet and upload to the supplemental materials section on DICAS.  Be sure your website is easy to navigate.  Be sure to ALSO send the cover sheet with your application fee, as described above.

    Note: LinkedIn profiles will not be accepted to fulfill this application requirement.

On the Application Cover Sheet
Indicate all campuses and/or distance options you are applying for.  For the distance option, list your preferred geographic locations and rank in order of your preference.  In addition, indicate the concentrations you are interested in and rank in order of preference.
